Over the past few years, the prevailing trend in Halloween costumes is apparently the lack of clothing. As in, it has become a "holiday" or event used as an excuse to simply show some skin. Put the word "sexy" in front of any outfit or job title ever invented and boom, you've got a costume. Forget what the flyers tell you, I'm here to set the record straight. Creativity and homeade costumes are still cool. This past weekend I hosted two different Halloween parties, the average age at each being primarily in the 18 - 30 range. This is actual field research, and I'm happy to report that clever, homeade, topical, and funny still beat "sexy" by an average ratio of 5 to 1. Believe it. Homeade "Yip Yip" costumes from Seasame Street, that blue person from Avatar, Transformers that actually transform (complete with working lights. Unreal), a brilliant WORKING drink machine. C'mon!!! The truth is, Halloween costumes are actually the opposite of what people think they have become. It's the same as it ever was. Rest easy everyone. I will continue to monitor the situation for you and ensure that homeade still wins the cash at the end of the night.

  • I agree about the Costume Blog! I'm The district manager for San Francisco Gifts over on McPhillips and YES many girls come in and literally as myself and my staff what the "sexiest" costume is! Its the one time of year that girls can dress in a ridiculously HAWT costume and not have people judge them. Then again we have MANY people who come in and are looking for things to put together they're own costume! such as Beetle juice, Avatar, power Rangers, Mosquitoes etc. One actually painted they're entire body for Avatar and WOW it looks EXACTLY like avatar! i got pics to prove it! Lets ROCK the homemade costumes and make it have tons of personality !! Kudos to everyone at TYC who had killer homemade costumes! Thats where the fun is!!!
